'Inspired' by our Psychology department, I've created an NCSociology 'Quizlet' resource, which is basically a series of flashcards for you to play around with online (you can test yourself, or there's different activities you can do). To get it, go to Quizlet online or download the Quizlet app on your phones/tablets and look for NCSociology. At the moment, there's just one set of flashcards (all for the first exam).

There will be 2 AS revision days in April as follows:
Thurs 9th April 10am - 3pm, F3:10 G671 Revision: Covering Key Concepts, Gender and the pre-release material/52 Mark Question. Fri 10th April 10am - 3pm, F3:10 G672 Revision: Covering Religion and Health These sessions have been incredibly valuable in previous years, so attendance is seriously recommended. You should all have a record of these now, but if not, here are the dates of your final exams:
AS: Exploring Socialisation, Culture & Identity G671 (with pre-release study): 12th May (pm) Topics in Socialisation, Culture & Identity G672 (Religion/Health): 21st May (am) A2: Power & Control G673 (Crime): 15th June (pm) Exploring Social Inequality & Difference G674: 18th June (pm) Click here for a link to the full OCR exam timetable. Mock Exams will be on the week beginning 19th January 2015. All Sociology students will have two exams, one for each unit. These will take place at the times that you would normally have your Sociology lessons that week. Mock Exams are important and will be used to generate your official predicted grades for the subject, which are handed on to OCR. Any questions/concerns, let us know. We'll be doing plenty of revision/preparation in class, but you will also be need to be doing lots of this in your own time throughout January. Each AS/A2 student should by now have completed two progress tests and been given their overall grade. Your target grade will now be set at a grade above your progress test grade. You should be aiming to achieve your target grade, as a minimum, on your next progress test.
If you are unsure about your progress test grade(s) or your target grade, contact Joel or Bryony to check. The pre-release material for the G671 exam is now available from the OCR Sociology web-page. Students will get copies in class after half-term, but you can download your own copy now online via the website, for a preview on the themes and concepts we'll need to focus on for the exam.
This year's Sociology students were asked, at the end of the year, to complete a questionnaire which included a question on what advice they would give to future students coming to the college to study Sociology. The response to this particular question was very insightful, offering some excellent (and, in many cases, essential) guidance to anyone thinking of taking up the subject here. Here's a representative selection what was said:
I'll let that last point slide, as it seems fair enough. Besides, Sociology students are supposed to question everything, so I would be secretly disappointed if you assumed everything I said to be true. After sleepless nights for staff and students alike, the results were finally in today - and were, overall, very positive. Achievement for AS students was nearly 80% - an improvement on previous years - whilst achievement at A2 was 100%, ensuring that Northampton College remains above the national average for overall achievement in Sociology.
